Spot-On Signs & Graphics Receives Sustainable Business Award

We became a Certified Sustainable Business in June 2014 with the Sacramento Region Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC). As you might think, we reduce, reuse, recycle wherever we can in our daily work processes but we also invested in environmentally-friendly equipment and we look for "green" alternatives to traditional sign components that are not typically good for our environment.

Spot-On Signs & Graphics was awarded the Sustainable Business Award for Pollution Prevention on September 18, 2014. Our HP Latex 25500 printer is Energy Star rated and uses water based inks. Typical large-format printers use solvent inks requiring extensive ventilation systems. All the maintenance components, print heads, ink cartridges, etc.are recyclable with HP.

The latex ink and the printer were recipients of the 2010 BERTL awards for innovative technology. On the market in Europe for several years, the HP Latex printer was introduced in the US about 2010 and has changed the industry. Other printer manufacturers are following suit.

More and more suppliers to the industry are manufacturing environmentally friendly sign components. 3M's pvc-free print vinyl and laminate for vehicle wraps is a good example. Not only is it environmentally friendly but it has raised the bar for quality in production, installation, and longevity of vehicle graphics. Combined with latex ink, it's a winning combination!

With new products like pvc-free banner material, wallpapers, and recyclable substrates there are sign options that can contribute to LEED points. We recently met a company that had built a Silver LEED building but had their vehicle wrapped in pvc vinyl! Signage can be green!

Spot-On Signs & Graphics is committed to making a difference. Consumer demand will drive more change within the sign industry that is just beginning to develop alternatives. Join us in the effort and request information on alternatives that minimize the impact on the environment.
